SNYA Radio is for you
SNYA Radio has been in training since our soft launch in November 2009. We are pleased to say that we are currently working with 21 young people aged between 12 and 21 years old (17/01/10) but with the arrival of our new studios (20/01/10) our aim is to work with an additional 29 others. SNYA is pleased to announce that we have joined the National Council for Voluntary Youth Service (NCVYS). Since our launch we have built a separate website to host our radio station. You can visit SNYA Radio now to find out more information and/or how to get involved.
SNYA Radio is the first internet Radio station in South Norfolk to be run by young people. We have worked very hard over the last twelve months to raise the money required to get us on air. Last Wednesday (21st October) we secured an additional £20,000 from the East of England Regional Assembly to enable us to purchase two portable studios. Our office and permanent studio is based at Long Stratton Leisure Centre. Work has been going on for the last two months to build and soundproof the studio and ‘Green Room’. Young people have named the studio ‘the cupboard’ Over the last few months the broadcasters have been practicing their skills whilst interviewing celebrities such as the BBC’s Susie Fowler-Watt, Julie Reinger and Stephen Bumfrey. One of our first guests at our new studio is going to be BBC’s Look East’s anchor man Stuart White. We have completed many other interviews with organisations and individuals such as Minister of State for Children, Young People and Families the Rt Hon Dawn Primarolo MP, Norfolk Constabulary’s Ex Superintendent Paul Sandford, New Day and The Chuckle Brothers. SNYA Radio presenters have used this downtime to broadcast on BBC Local Radio and Future FM
I hope you like what you are reading and it has made you think ‘I can do that!’ If you are aged between 11 and 21 years old and you want to have a go why not get in touch? You could broadcast a programme about anything that is important to you. We have several ways in which you can do this.
1) SNYA School Radio – This is where we take a mobile studio to your school for a few days or a week and your school designs and broadcasts their own programmes during the school day. This is open to High Schools, Junior and Infant and Primary schools in South Norfolk. Schools outside of the district can also take part but there will be a small charge for delivery and collection. 2) SNYA Outreach Radio (1) - If you access the Southern Area Children’s Services camper van when it comes to your village or town then you can register your interest and we will arrange for you to record your programmes on the van. 3) SNYA Outreach Radio (2) - If you attend a youth club, uniformed youth provision or church group in South Norfolk and they would like to get involved then ask your youth leader to get in touch. Youth provision outside the district can also apply but there is a small charge for delivery and collection. 4) SNYA Radio - If you live in Norfolk and can get yourself to and from Long Stratton then you can get involved. (11 to 21 year olds) 5) SNYA NEET Radio - Are you not in employment, education or training? In partnership with Southern Area Connexions we are offering you the opportunity to make your own shows. Just speak to your PA. 6) SNYA Work Experience Radio – Are you studying a Foundation Degree in Media Studies (year 1 and 2), National Diploma in Media Production or Year 10 media studies? In partnership with City College you are eligible to undertake your work experience at SNYA Radio. Please speak to your tutor. Other Educational establishments will also be considered. 7) SNYA Radio Live Lounge - Does your up and coming band/rock group want some air time? We have a live lounge for your band to play live on air. Alternatively, your band could visit our studios and one of our broadcasters will interview you whilst we play your music from your demo disc. (By appointment only as well as your bands age being between 11 and 21 years old)
