Josh Worley, head of SNYA Radio PDF  | Print |

We all listen to the radio, and the chances are you’ve probably at some point in your life wanted to sit in the studio, pressing the buttons and entertaining your listeners.

Well, (and I’m sure you can see where this is going) now you can!

SNYA Radio is an Internet Radio Station made by and for young people in South Norfolk. If you are under 19, you will have the opportunity to present your own show on air, or take part in loads of jobs off air, like editing and producing.

We have been given a room where we will set up our studio in Long Stratton Leisure Centre!

This station will not have any presenters over the age of 19 and only a few adults will be working at the station, just to make sure everyone is safe, happy bunnies. This really is your radio station and your chance to play the songs you want to play, and talk about what you want to talk about!

If you would like to find out more on how to get involved with the station, please email Steve Thomas at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ! We are looking to get our team together by July, so please get in touch now! Absolutely no experience is necessary to get involved with the station, whether you want to present or work behind the scenes. We will give you training on how to do your job, so please don’t worry if you have NO idea what to do!

Volunteers needed for test purchase operations PDF  | Print |

Are you aged 14 ½ yrs to 16 ½ yrs who would like to assist as a volunteer with test purchase operations?
Norfolk's Trading Standards team and the Constabulary carry out operations where young people go into shops and attempt to buy age-restricted products, such as cigarettes or alcohol. For the right young people this is a very exciting piece of work. You will be given training, work in areas that you don’t reside and you will not be working a lone when carrying out your duties. You and your parent/carer will be interviewed so you have a full understanding of what is required and consent must be obtained. Norfolk Blurb
Norfolk County Council's Children's Service's award winning website for young people is currently off line. Norfolk Blurb was first launched in May 2003 as a Website created by young people for young people funded by Transforming Youth Work. A team of young people worked together to produce the branding, content and publicity for the Website now known as Norfolk Blurb. Once launched, the Website consisted of articles written by young people on a range of topics such as sexual health, drugs, bullying and teenage pregnancy. It also featured news and information on events happening in Norfolk as well as providing the opportunity to submit reviews on bands, books and films.Whilst the technical problems are being resolved you can get your Norfolk Youth Fund application form by clicking here

Comprehensive Performance Assessment (2008) PDF  | Print |
The Council has made good progress on including young people and taking account of their needs. The Council aims to place children and young people at the heart of its services. Its work on involving young people in decisions which affect their lives and futures has been recognised with the award of Beacon status for 'positive youth engagement in the democratic process' in March 2006 with the county council. An active youth forum, South Norfolk Youth Action, (SNYA) is in place, giving views and proposals to Council on, for example the LDF, budget, and service delivery improvements. Effective engagement with young people is being achieved. The Council is working to broaden the aspirations and increase educational attainment of young people. This will help it meet its community ambitions. It has worked for three years with students at Long Stratton High School studying ICT. The Council provides them with advice and information on how it uses technology to do its business with hands on experience. The project has been well received by the school and recognised by Ofsted inspectors as an example of good practice. The Council also works with young people to develop their skills and business ideas through its youth enterprise programme. Staff members have worked closely with the Princes Trust to help young people set up in business and have acted as Business Mentors to provide a commitment to the young person for two years. At the annual Crucial Crew event 900 children from local primary schools were trained in food safety and health and safety. The Council is delivering a range of skills and experience to young people.
